What is WHMCS?

WHMCS is software that resellers use to sell hosting. It handles orders, bills and support. When a customer pays, WHMCS can talk to your hosting server and set up their account on its own. For that, you add the server to WHMCS. This guide is for people who run their own WHMCS.

What you need

  • The server's hostname or IP address. An IP address is the number address of a server.
  • The type of control panel, such as cPanel/WHM or Plesk.
  • A WHM login and an API token, or a username and password. An API token is a long secret key that lets one program use another.

Your welcome email or Hostvento support can give you the server details.

Steps

  1. Log in to your WHMCS admin area.
  2. Click the gear icon, or open Setup, then Products/Services.
  3. Click Servers.
  4. Click Add New Server.
  5. Type a name, such as "Server 1".
  6. Enter the hostname and the IP address.
  7. Set the maximum number of accounts the server should hold.
  8. Choose the module for your control panel, for example cPanel.
  9. Enter the username, usually root or your reseller user. Enter the API token or password.
  10. Tick Secure if the connection should use SSL. SSL locks the data in transit.
  11. Click Test Connection.
  12. When the test works, click Save Changes.

Put the server in a group

  1. On the Servers page, click Create New Group.
  2. Name the group and add your server to it.
  3. Link the group to your product.
Tip: Never share your API token. Treat it like a password. If the test fails, check the IP address, the token and any firewall.
