Connect OpenSRS to WHMCS

What are OpenSRS and WHMCS?

WHMCS is billing software for hosting sellers. OpenSRS is a wholesale domain service. Resellers buy domains there at their own account's rates. When a customer orders a domain in WHMCS, WHMCS can ask OpenSRS to register it. To make this work, you join the two with a registrar module. A module is a small add-on that lets WHMCS talk to another service.

You need your own OpenSRS reseller account. Hostvento does not provide it. Ask Hostvento support about the rest of your plan if needed.

What you need

• Your OpenSRS reseller username.
• Your OpenSRS API key. An API key is a secret code that lets one program use another.
• The IP address of your WHMCS server added to the allowed list in OpenSRS. This list says which servers may use your key.

Steps

1. Log in to the OpenSRS reseller control panel.
2. Find the place to create or view your API key. Copy it.
3. Add your WHMCS server IP to the allowed IP list. Your server's IP is in your welcome email, or ask support.
4. Log in to your WHMCS admin area.
5. Go to System Settings (older versions: Setup), then Domain Registrars.
6. Find OpenSRS in the list.
7. Click Activate.
8. Type your username and your API key.
9. Choose live mode when you are ready. Use test mode first if you want to try.
10. Click Save Changes.
11. Go to Domain Pricing and set OpenSRS as the registrar for the domain endings (like .com) you want to sell.

Test it

Do a test lookup of a domain in WHMCS. A good result shows the module can reach OpenSRS. If you see a connection error, check the key and the IP list.
