Why optimize?
Reseller hosting is a shared space. All your customers' sites use the same limits for disk space, memory and traffic. If one site uses too much, all of them slow down. A few good habits prevent most problems.
WHM is the control panel for resellers. A control panel is a web page where you manage hosting.
Steps you can follow
- Check disk use. In WHM, open List Accounts to see how much space each customer uses. Ask big users to clean up.
- Find unused accounts. Old test sites waste room. Back them up, then remove them.
- Keep software updated. Old WordPress, plugins and themes slow sites and invite attackers. Tell customers to update often.
- Add caching. A cache keeps a ready copy of a page so it loads faster. Many sites use a caching plugin.
- Shrink images. Large pictures are the top cause of slow pages. Resize them before upload.
- Use a recent PHP version. PHP is the language behind many sites. Newer versions are faster. Test before switching.
- Clean spam and old email. Large mailboxes use disk space. Set up spam filters.
- Take regular backups. Keep a copy off the server too.
- Watch resource use. If a site keeps hitting limits, move it to a bigger plan or ask support for advice.
- Use SSL on every site. SSL is the padlock that protects visitors.
Tip: Warning: before you delete any account or file, take a backup. Deleting cannot be undone.
Know your limits
Your plan sets the limits. Look at your plan details in the client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php. If you often reach them, ask Hostvento support about options.
