What is a cache?
A cache is a saved copy. It helps pages load faster, because the server does not need to build them again. Think of a note you keep so you do not have to look the answer up each time.
A WordPress site can have several caches. Your browser has one. Your caching plugin has one. A CDN may have one too. A CDN is a service that keeps copies of your files in many places around the world. If you change your site and the old page still shows, one of these caches is the cause.
Step 1: Clear the browser cache
- Open your browser settings.
- Find Privacy or History.
- Choose Clear browsing data.
- Tick Cached images and files.
- Click Clear data.
A quick way to test is to open your site in a private or incognito window.
Step 2: Clear the plugin cache
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard at
yourdomain.com/wp-admin. - Look at the top bar. Find the menu for your caching plugin.
- Click Purge, Clear Cache or Delete Cache. The label depends on the plugin.
A plugin is a small add-on that gives WordPress new features. If you have no caching plugin, skip this step.
Step 3: Clear the CDN cache
- Log in to your CDN service, such as Cloudflare.
- Find the caching area.
- Click the option to purge or clear the cache.
Step 4: Clear the server cache
Some servers keep their own cache. If your plan uses LiteSpeed, a LiteSpeed Cache plugin can clear it for you. Open LiteSpeed Cache in the dashboard, then Toolbox, then click Purge All. Ask Hostvento support what your plan uses.
Step 5: Check the result
- Reload your site.
- Look for your change.
- If the old page is still there, wait a few minutes and try again.
If the problem stays, open a support ticket at https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php.
Quick recap
- A cache is a saved copy that speeds up a site.
- Old copies can hide your changes.
- Clear the plugin, CDN, server and browser caches.
- Test in a private window.
- Ask support if the old page remains.
