Delete a Page Rule in Cloudflare

This guide shows how to remove a custom page rule from your domain in Cloudflare.

Speed and Performance2 min read15 steps

What is a page rule?

Cloudflare is a service that sits between your visitors and your website. It speeds up and protects your site. A page rule is an instruction you give Cloudflare for a certain web address. For example, you can tell it to skip the cache on your admin pages, or to send visitors from one address to another.

Sometimes a rule is wrong or no longer needed. A bad rule can make a page act strangely, such as showing old content or looping. Deleting the rule fixes this.

Warning: A deleted rule cannot be brought back. Write down its address pattern and settings first. You can then make it again if you need to.

Steps

  1. Go to the Cloudflare website and log in.
  2. Click the domain you want to change.
  3. In the left menu, find Rules. Click it and open Page Rules. Cloudflare has been moving rules into newer tools, so the name and place can differ. If you cannot find Page Rules, look for a section named Rules or Rules Overview.
  4. You will see a list of your rules. Each one shows an address pattern and the action it takes.
  5. Find the rule you want to remove.
  6. Click the three dots, the trash icon or the Delete button on that row.
  7. A message asks you to confirm. Click Delete again.
  8. The rule disappears from the list.

Another option: pause the rule

If you are not sure, you can turn the rule off for now.

  1. Find the rule in the list.
  2. Use the switch on the row to turn it off.
  3. Test your site.
  4. Delete the rule later if the site works well.

Check the result

  1. Clear the Cloudflare cache. Open Caching and use Purge Everything.
  2. Open your site in a private browser window.
  3. Visit the page that the rule used to affect.

Free Cloudflare accounts only allow a small number of page rules. Check Cloudflare for the current number. Deleting a rule you no longer use makes room for a new one.
