What is AWStats?
AWStats is a tool that reads your website's log files and turns them into easy reports. A log file is a diary the server keeps of every visit. The reports show how many people visited, which pages they read and which countries they came from.
Normally you find AWStats inside cPanel. But on many servers you can open it with a direct web address. That is handy if you want to look quickly.
Whether this works depends on how your server is set up. Ask Hostvento support if the steps below do not work on your plan.
Steps
- Find your cPanel username and your server's hostname. They are in your welcome email.
- Open your browser.
- Type an address in this style:
https://yourdomain.com:2083/awstats.pl?config=yourdomain.com
Port 2083 is the secure cPanel port. The part after config= tells AWStats which site to show.
- A login box appears. Type your cPanel username and password.
- The AWStats report opens.
This still asks for your cPanel login, but you skip the cPanel home screen and go directly to the report.
Using a short address
Some servers also let you open the stats through the hostname, for example:
https://server-hostname:2083/awstats.pl?config=yourdomain.com
Replace server-hostname with the hostname from your welcome email.
If it does not open
- Check that the domain name is spelled correctly.
- Make sure the site has had some visits. New sites may show nothing at first.
- AWStats updates only a few times a day, so very recent visits may not show.
- The tool may be turned off. Ask Hostvento support whether it is available on your plan.
Warning: Do not make AWStats open to everyone without a password. Visitor data should stay private.
You can open a support ticket if you need help.
Quick recap
- AWStats turns server logs into visitor reports.
- You can open it with a direct address on port 2083.
- You still log in with your cPanel details.
- If it fails, ask support if AWStats is on your plan.
