Edit a Feature List in WHM

This guide shows how to change which cPanel tools a feature list allows.

WHM2 min read13 steps

What is a feature list?

A feature list is a checklist of cPanel tools, like Email Accounts, File Manager and Backup. A ticked tool is shown to the user. An unticked tool is hidden. It works like a menu where you choose which dishes are served.

You manage feature lists in WHM, the Web Host Manager. You need root or reseller access.

Editing a list changes the tools for every account that uses it, through its package. A package is a bundle of limits, such as disk space, that an account follows.

Before you start

Warning: Hiding a tool that a customer uses will make it vanish from their cPanel. A site may even stop working if it depends on that tool. Write down what you change so you can undo it.

Steps

  1. Log in to WHM.
  2. In the search box, type Feature Manager and open it. It is under Packages.
  3. Look at the Edit a Feature List section.
  4. Choose the list you want from the drop-down.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. Read through the tools. Each has a tick box.
  7. Tick a box to give the tool. Untick a box to hide it.
  8. Use the Select All or Unselect All links if you want to start from a clean state.
  9. Scroll to the bottom and click Save.

A message tells you that the list was saved.

Check the result

  1. Open List Accounts.
  2. Pick an account that uses the list.
  3. Click the cPanel icon next to it to log in as that user.
  4. See if the tools match your changes.

If a tool does not show up

  • The tool may be missing from the server itself, even if ticked.
  • The account may use a different package and list. Check in Modify an Account.
  • The page may need a refresh. Log out and in again.
Tip: Make a copy of a list before you change it. Create a new list with a name like basic-old and tick the same boxes. Then you can go back.
