Fix the "Ticket ID Not Found" Error in WHMCS

This guide explains why WHMCS may say "Ticket ID Not Found" and how to fix it. It is meant for people who run their own WHMCS.

What does the error mean?

WHMCS is a billing and support program. Every support ticket gets an ID, which is a short code like ABC-123456. This code is how WHMCS knows which ticket you mean.

The error means WHMCS looked for a ticket with that code and could not find it. It often appears when a customer opens a ticket link from an email, or when a reply is sent by email to the support address.

Common causes

  • The ticket was deleted or merged into another ticket.
  • The link was cut off or typed wrong, so the code is incomplete.
  • The customer used the ticket ID of an old system or a different WHMCS.
  • The email piping or POP3 import setting is not working, so replies cannot find their tickets.
  • The ticket mask (the pattern that builds the code) was changed after tickets were made.

Fixes to try

  1. Log in to the WHMCS admin area.
  2. Go to Support, then Support Tickets. Search for the ticket by its code or by the customer's name.
  3. If the ticket is there, open it and copy its link again. Send the new link to the customer.
  4. If the ticket is missing, check whether it was merged. Search under All Tickets, including closed ones.
  5. Go to Setup, then General Settings, then the Support tab. Look at Ticket Mask Format. Make sure you did not change it in a way that breaks old tickets.
  6. Check Setup, then Support, then Support Departments. Make sure the email address of the department is right.
  7. If replies by email are not matching, test the email import. Send a test reply and watch Utilities, then Logs, then Ticket Mail Import Log.

Menu names change a little between WHMCS versions. Use the search box in the admin area if you cannot find one.

Warning: Back up your WHMCS database before you change ticket settings.

Tip: Tell customers to always reply to the email they get, not to start a new email. That keeps the ticket ID in the subject line.

If you are a Hostvento customer

If you see this error on a Hostvento support page, open a new support ticket and write the old ticket ID in it. You can also log in to the client area and check your ticket list under Support.

  • The error means WHMCS cannot find a ticket with that ID.
  • Causes include deleted tickets, broken links and email import problems.
  • Search the admin area, check the ticket mask and test the mail import.
  • Customers can always open a new ticket.
