What is a reseller?
A reseller is a person who buys hosting space and sells small parts of it to other people. Each customer gets their own cPanel account. The reseller looks after them all from WHM.
WHM is the manager panel. Root is the main admin of the whole server. A reseller has only a part of that power.
How to log in
- Find your reseller login details in your welcome email. Ask Hostvento support if you cannot find it.
- Open the WHM address given there. It is usually the server name with port 2087 at the end, over https.
- Type your username and password.
- Click Log in.
What a reseller can usually do
- Create accounts with Create a New Account.
- List and change accounts with List Accounts and Modify an Account.
- Suspend and unsuspend accounts.
- Change passwords with Password Modification.
- Terminate accounts that belong to them.
- Set limits on bandwidth and disk space.
- Make packages and feature lists, if allowed.
- Use Reseller Center to see their own limits and branding options.
- Log in to a customer's cPanel with one click.
What a reseller usually cannot do
- Change server-wide settings.
- Install server software or restart services.
- See or change accounts that belong to other resellers.
- Change the server time or core security.
What is an ACL?
ACL stands for Access Control List. It is a list of tools a reseller may use. The server owner makes it. If a tool is missing in your WHM, the ACL probably does not allow it.
Look for the menu list on the left side of WHM. The tools you see there are the ones you may use.
Tip: If you need a tool that you do not see, open a ticket at https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php and say which one you need.
Quick recap
- A reseller manages customer accounts in WHM.
- Resellers have less power than root.
- The ACL decides which tools a reseller sees.
- Ask Hostvento support if you need more access.
