What is a port?

A port is a numbered door on a server. Each service uses its own door. Web pages use one door. The control panel uses another. When you add the port number to a web address, you tell the browser which door to knock on.

Common ports

PortUsed for
2082cPanel, not secure (http)
2083cPanel, secure (https)
2086WHM, not secure (http)
2087WHM, secure (https)
2095Webmail, not secure (http)
2096Webmail, secure (https)
2077 and 2078Web Disk (WebDAV)
2079 and 2080Calendars and contacts

Secure means that the data between you and the server is hidden from others. Always choose the secure ports when you can.

How to open cPanel

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Type your domain, then a colon and 2083. For example: https://yourdomain.com:2083
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Type your cPanel username and password.
  5. Click Log in.

Many servers also accept https://yourdomain.com/cpanel. It sends you to the right port for you.

How to open WHM

  1. Type https://yourdomain.com:2087 in the browser. You can also use the server name or IP address from your welcome email.
  2. Press Enter.
  3. Log in with your reseller or root details.

The short form https://yourdomain.com/whm often works too.

How to open Webmail

  1. Type https://yourdomain.com:2096.
  2. Log in with the full email address and its password.
Tip: If you see a browser warning about the certificate, check the address first. If the page uses the server name or IP address, the warning can be normal. If you are not sure, ask Hostvento support.

If the page will not open

  • A firewall may block the port. This can be on your server, your office or your network.
  • Check you typed https with 2083 or 2087, not http.
  • Try another network, such as mobile data.
