This guide needs root access. Root is the all-powerful admin user on a server. VPS and dedicated server owners have it.
What does this do?
cPanel is the control panel for managing websites and email. It runs as a service, which is a program that works in the background. Sometimes the panel gets stuck and the login page will not open. Restarting the service often fixes this. SSH is a safe way to type commands on a faraway server.
Restarting cPanel does not turn off your websites. It only affects the panel pages for a short time.
Steps
- Open an SSH program. On Windows you can use PuTTY. On Mac or Linux use the Terminal app.
- Connect to your server with its IP address and root details:
Your welcome email holds the IP address. If you cannot find it, ask support.ssh root@your-server-ip - Type the password when asked. Nothing shows on the screen while you type. This is normal.
- Restart cPanel with this command:
It restarts the program that serves the cPanel and WHM pages./scripts/restartsrv_cpsrvd - Check that it is running:
/scripts/restartsrv_cpsrvd --status - Open WHM or cPanel in your browser. Use the ports 2087 for WHM and 2083 for cPanel.

Tip: If the panel still does not load, check that the disk is not full with
